Litigation is difficult to learn anywhere it is treated as a side activity. Here it is the main one — which means the people who join spend their time on assessments, records and submissions rather than on returns.
What the work is
Files, not forms.
A person joining this firm will spend their time reading assessment orders against the material they rely on, reconciling figures the Department has estimated, researching the position on a specific provision, and drafting — grounds, statements of fact, submissions, and the paper books that carry them.
That is demanding early on. It also compounds faster than most alternatives, because the skills involved — reading a record properly, framing an argument, writing so a bench can follow — do not go out of date.
You will work on
- Post-search assessments under sections 153A and 153C
- On-money and real estate additions
- Reassessment and section 148A proceedings
- Appeals before the CIT(A) and the Tribunal
- Penalty and stay proceedings
- Research and published analysis
Who we are looking for
Three things matter more than a mark sheet.
You read carefully
The ability to notice that an order says something the record does not support is the single most useful trait in this work. It is a habit of attention, not a qualification.
You write clearly
Most of what leaves this office is written. Plain sentences that carry a precise point are worth considerably more than elaborate ones that do not.
You finish things
Litigation runs on deadlines that do not move. Reliability over a long file matters more than brilliance in a short burst.
